On participation in the protection of journalists
In order to support the strengthening of the autonomy and legal protection of Latvian journalists, due to the establishment of the Latvian Journalists' Association (LJA) Legal Aid Center, Ilona Bulgakova has agreed to join the Legal Aid Center and provide free legal assistance to journalists in criminal or administrative proceedings.

At the conference “Advancing the Defence Rights of Children”
Sworn advocate Ilona Bulgakova participated in the international practical conference “Advancing the Defence Rights of Children. Regional Training Event”(University of Leiden, The Netherlands). The conference was attended by legal practitioners and university representatives from various EU countries. The theoretical and practical part of the conference was mainly devoted to Directive (EU) 2016/800 of the European Parliament and of the Council, adopted on 11 May 2016, on procedural guarantees for children who are suspects or accused persons in criminal proceedings. The provisions of the Directive must be transposed (integrated into the legislation of the EU Member States) by 11 June 2019.
